Instead of the traditional, incremental Facebook changes we are fairly familiar with, the social media giant has some pretty hefty developments underway. The company’s mobile innovation initiatives, which are being coined as the next evolution for Facebook Platform for Mobile, includes the introduction of Open Graph. This feature allows developers to better and more fully integrate their applications into the Facebook experience, making it easier for users to share their stories about music, movies, fitness, books, and more. The best part is, users can share activities through apps without having to log in to Facebook. It is becoming that easy. You [...]

As a woman, who wouldn’t aspire to be Sheryl Sandberg? As COO of Facebook and the richest self-made woman in the US, she really defines the term having it all. She believes in leaving the office every day at 5:30 pm to have dinner with her kids, and that a work-life balance is necessary. Wait…. is this for real? So how does a woman become a career icon of a generation (besides the fact of having a net worth of about $1.25 billion)? The answer is easy – break gender stereotypes and speak out against workplace discrimination. So take note ladies [...]

Have you ever noticed that you only see a handful of posts (relative to the number of friends or fans you have) on your Facebook news feed? What about the varying positions of these posts on your feed? It is all decided by EdgeRank, Facebook’s algorithm for determining what is displayed, and how high it is displayed, on users’ news feeds. The official EdgeRank algorithm looks something like this: In simple terms, an Edge can be described as anything that “happens” on Facebook. These could include status updates, likes, shares, tags, comments, etc. Based on the above components of a certain [...]

For today’s post, I wanted to focus on targeting a specific audience on social sites. With so many people in the world, knowing who and where to focus can help grow your customer base efficiently! Who: What age group does your product appeal to? Does it appeal to more than one? What about gender? These are all questions you should be asking yourself as soon as you decide to put your product on the market. Not everyone is going to be interested in your product, so if you take the time to figure out who is, then you can save [...]

Every morning I watch CNBC before work. Over the past few months, I’ve gotten pretty sick of hearing about Facebook’s stock price and how it’s chiefly a problem with monetizing mobile (and the fact it was way overvalued in the first place). Tom Krazit in his Gigaom article at the end of May said it best, “Everyone has a mobile problem: not just Facebook.” According to Mary Meeker from Kleiner Perkins, while mobile traffic now accounts for 10 percent of overall traffic, companies built around desktop ads are worried about the value of mobile ads–shown as 5 times [...]
