There is a lot of controversy surrounding whether Biden or Ryan won last night’s Vice Presidential debate. While those on the left wing feel Biden stole the show with his booming personality and retorts, right wingers feel his smirking and constant interruptions were unsophisticated and rude. Many reports out there are claiming the debate a “draw.” Twitter was a buzz from both sides during the debate last night. Check out the infographic below from Mashable to see what comments spiked up the number and frequency of political tweets! Learn how to monitor hashtags and trends on Twitter with our Twitter Cheat [...]

Charlottesville is very Zen today with the arrival of the Dalai Lama in downtown Cville. Earlier today there was a huge line waiting outside the Paramount to see and listen to his holiness, and at 1:30pm EST he held a public talk at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion on “Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World.” In celebration of this exciting Charlottesville event, we wanted to share with you our own Zen points on marketing so you can find your own online enlightenment. Do one thing at a time In the world of marketing, we are no stranger to multi-tasking. While this [...]

At the end of August, Amanda and I headed up to Boston for 4 beautiful days in the historic city. We could not have experienced nicer weather, which made sitting in the conference rooms difficult but luckily the speakers and panelists for Inbound 2012 created “not-to-miss” presentations. Here are 25 lessons that we learned at Inbound, and they’re easily tweetable by just clicking on the link next to the quote. Don’t you love when I make your life so easy!? 30-40 landing pages earn 7 times more leads than 1-5 landing pages. Publish often. Don’t be a [...]

Last Friday, our very own Alexandra Gibson was featured in an interview on Hugh Macken Live on Blog Talk Radio. She discussed social media and inbound marketing, with a focus on OttoPilot Media’s results-based approach. The meat of the interview consisted of determining the difference between measuring social media metrics and social media ROI, and what each means for your business. Social media metrics like reach and sentiment analytics are important, but businesses ultimately want more revenue and greater brand recognition to gain that revenue. With that said, OttoPilot focuses on things that actually bring results to a company. Hence, our [...]

Shock waves were felt throughout Charlottesville on Sunday, June 10th when Rector Helen Dragas sent a vague email informing Jefferson’s University that Teresa Sullivan would step down from her position as President of the University of Virginia. As a member of the University of Virginia community still living and working in Charlottesville, I felt the immediate punch packed by Dragas’ email. Outrage, confusion, and doubt pulsated throughout grounds. I quickly turned to where I get much of my information–my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts–to spread the word of the startling news surrounding U.Va. As many of you know, Amanda and I just returned from a roadtrip adventure to Austin, Texas for SXSW. We created a mobile marketing agency in an RV with a hot spot, a ton of power converters, two dogs, and a load of diet cokes and sour patch kids. Over the last few years, South by Southwest has grown in magnitude and size, becoming a petri dish for innovation, launches, and where to go if you are anyone in technology/interactive and music (film is still not as big). In past years, SXSW was the venue for the launches of Twitter (well, it really caught [...]

You should hear Amanda and Alexandra talk to the OttoPilot team about their upcoming road trip to the 2012 SXSW Interactive Festival: “And then we’re going to visit the Minister’s House—“ “—What?” “The World’s Biggest Treehouse.” “Oh… nice…” “And THEN we’re going to visit the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum…. And I didn’t even tell you the best part. We’re taking an RV.” Silence. Although judging from the dialogue you may think the two captains of OttoPilot Media are well into at LEAST their sixth decade, Amanda and Alexandra are young and fashionable—not the type you’d expect to get excited about rolling up [...]
